More to Love- first impressions

July 29th, 2009 · 9 Comments

I’m only half way through the first episode, but here are my initial impressions:
1- Glad they choose a variety of “plus sized” body types. Short, tall, very curvey, just a bit chubby and athletic-ish.
2-The “Bachelor” is cute. Glad they didn’t make him dumpy.
3- This is a show that is absolutely as much about size as […]

Should Fat Matter?

July 24th, 2009 · 1 Comment

Lots of folks, including The View, The Huffington Post, CNN, FOX News, you name it, are talking about Obama’s nominee for Surgeon General, Regina Benjamin. This issue fascinates me, in part because I see both sides of the argument.
The issue in question: is she too fat to be surgeon general?
Check out more info here.
Also […]

Random Madness

July 22nd, 2009 · 4 Comments

–Every week, life with two young children gets easier. It’s amazing how much more I can get done as they grow up. I vacuum all the time now, even upstairs! Shocking, I know.
– When I bought gas today, the computer screen had a scroll-across bar reading “Thank you for visiting the Peach Stand. Have a […]

Day Three

July 22nd, 2009 · 1 Comment

Day Three of furlough from work and it looks like I might actually get to enjoy the rest of the week. Katherine sailed through adenoid surgery with only a little discomfort right when she woke up. Today she appears to be nearly 100%, which is amazing.
Unfortunately, the rest of the family has also gotten sick […]

Here is what is wrong with society

July 16th, 2009 · 2 Comments

Browsing the internet for an inexpensive bedroom set for my youngest daughter, I ran across this:

Not the most attractive set I’ve ever seen, but at first glance it doesn’t seem too bad. Clearly it’s not what I want for my two-year-old, but it’s advertised as a tween/teen set. But check out the name. The bedroom […]

Good news, bad news

July 13th, 2009 · No Comments

The good news? I get a week off!
The bad news? It’s because of work furloughs.
The really bad news? I get to spend that week tending to my 5 yr. old, who will be having her adenoids taken out.
As concerned as I am about her going through surgery, not to mention the expense of that combined […]

Solo Dining

July 11th, 2009 · 8 Comments

I was listening to NPR’s Splendid Table today and they discussed the book “What We Eat When We Eat Alone,” a compilation of stories and recipes that discuss, obviously, what people eat when they are alone. It got me to thinking, what do other people enjoy when they have a quiet night to themselves? When […]

Reading is FUN!

July 8th, 2009 · 5 Comments

No one told me how funny it was going to be watching a child learn to read. My friend Sarah gave Katherine some word magnets for the fridge and the husband struck a deal with her. If Katherine learns to read all of the magnets, he’ll give her $10. Money motivates this kid. She’s spent […]

(Totally not wordless) Wednesday

July 8th, 2009 · 2 Comments

My friend Tonya has some serious talent when it comes to all things paper. She was asked to do a scrapbook page for display at our local scrapbook store and used a picture of Charlotte for it. Check out what she is able to do with a simple photo and her incredible talent and creativity.

The […]

Random Tuesday Thoughts

July 7th, 2009 · 5 Comments

–Katherine goes in for a CT Scan tomorrow to check out her sinuses, to find out why she can’t get rid of the sniffles/infections. Not too worried but not thrilled about having to put her through it. I explained that the scan will be like the X-ray she took of her leg when she broke […]
